And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.” (1 Corinthians 13:13)
In these words we observe that something is spoken of as of special importance, and as peculiarly essential in Christians, which the apostle calls charity. Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) was a Congregational minister of New England (now USA), a friend of such men as George Whitefield and Ebenezer and Ralph Erskine. The writings he left to posterity show something of the enormous spiritual stature of this scholar and preacher of the Gospel.
